Murder

So yesterday I shared some of my research with Jed on what I found in the Archive a few weeks ago. There are a few newspaper cuttings from the Cambrian Newsletter online. It is a story of murder.

In 1898 a black seaman walked out of The Queens pub on a cold February evening. He was greeted by a prostitute so the story goes .. he went to wait for the lady in question at No. 5 Pier Street. He went to the bedroom and waited. A few moments later he heard heavy footsteps and climbed under the bed. He fell asleep and awoke early morning lighting a match whereby the wife of the sleeping couple awoke. The man got out of bed and the seaman fought with a razor, mortally wounding the man. The wife got the gun from underneath the pillow and shot the seaman in the leg.

He ran down Pier Street to the South Dock where he was found hours later by the police. The seaman was found guilty of murder and hung in front of a crowd of 2000.

It is a great story and I hope it gives Jed inspiration.
